(Bloomberg) -- President-elect Donald Trump has endorsed KC Crosbie as a co-chair of the Republican National Committee, after his daughter-in-law stepped aside amid speculation about a future post in the Senate.
Trump announced his support of Crosbie, the current treasurer, in a Truth Social post Monday evening, one day after Lara Trump bowed out.
“KC has been with me from the very beginning, helping REAL Republicans get elected across the Country, and would be a tremendous Co-Chair of the RNC,” along with Chair Michael Whatley, Trump announced.
The move comes as speculation swirls about the fate of Lara Trump, who co-led the RNC with Whatley and has expressed an openness to a potential Senate appointment in Florida. She previously considered seeking a seat in her birth state of North Carolina.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would have to appoint a successor to Senator Marco Rubio if he’s confirmed as Trump’s next secretary of State — a potential opening for Trump’s daughter-in-law.
Lara Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity later Monday that she hasn’t talked to DeSantis about the possibility.
“But if he calls me, if he asks me to do it, I would certainly think long and hard about it,” she added. “It is a big consideration, but it is something that I would truly be honored to be asked to do ultimately.”
According to her biography on the RNC website, Crosbie spent many years working in the health-care and pharmaceutical industries and graduated from the University of Kentucky.
The president-elect also announced a pair of other staff picks Monday, nominating RNC member and former Trump lawyer Harmeet Dhillon as assistant attorney general for civil rights at the Justice Department. Dhillon ran last year to chair the RNC, losing to Ronna McDaniel, who resigned earlier this year under pressure from Trump.
Trump on Monday tapped Mark Paoletta as general counsel of the Office of Management and Budget, a role he held in Trump’s first term.
