S&P/TSX composite rises as oil prices fall and geopolitical tensions ease

Canada’s main stock index finished in positive territory, and oil prices fell after the U.S. and Iran paused attacks, while U.S. markets were mixed.

The S&P/TSX composite index was up 199.04 points at 35,568.14.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 262.83 points at 52,210.08. The S&P 500 index was up 1.20 points at 7,413.18, while the Nasdaq composite was down 43.74 points at 24,932.08.

The Canadian dollar traded for 70.85 cents US compared with 70.96 cents on Friday.

The September crude oil contract was down US$6.70 at US$82.61 per barrel.

The August gold contract was up US$6.20 at US$4,077 an ounce.
