MARKET OUTLOOK:
The next 24 hours could potentially be very significant for the trend of world markets. U.S. President Trump’s deadline for talks with Iran ends at 8:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) this evening. If a ceasefire deal is not reached, the U.S. has threatened to start bombing bridges and power plants. So far, Iran has given no indications of accepting terms.
The last month has been a volatile time for markets with significant changes in direction day to day and post to post as war developments have been the primary factor driving global market sentiment. Amid this uncertainty, the last month has generally seen stocks decline and oil rally. In the last week stocks have rebounded while oil has remained above US$100 per barrel.
Early indications suggest the world economy has held up in the face of war disruptions. Next week earning season begins where earnings and guidance may tell us more about the wider impact, particularly on inflation.
