MARKET OUTLOOK:

September has historically been one of the weakest months of the year for stocks. This year, the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) has been struggling with volatility in resource markets, particularly metals, while U.S. markets have been choppy with artificial intelligence (AI) related stocks providing support.

As the conflict in the Middle East continues, the prices of energy, copper and other commodities remain stubbornly high, pushing up inflation expectations and bond yields. With the start of the next earnings season two to three weeks away, and U.S. midterm elections five weeks away, there is potential for surprises and volatility through October.
