TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index edged higher in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the financial and base metal sectors, while U.S. markets also rose.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 17.35 points at 34,841.17.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 136.59 points at 52,319.33. The S&P 500 index was up 38.75 points at 7,479.18, while the Nasdaq composite was up 270.75 points at 26,090.89.
The Canadian dollar traded for 70.42 cents US compared with 70.39 cents US on Monday.
The August crude oil contract was down 59 cents US at US$70.16 per barrel.
The August gold contract was up US$10.20 at US$4,049.10 an ounce.
